In English it is Swahili.  In Swahili it is Kiswahili. 

Alphabet – The Swahili alphabet is similar to the English alphabet except that there is no ‘q’ and no ‘x’. 


Pronunciation – The rest of the letters remain the same but the vowels are not called the same.  “A” is “ah,” “e” is “eh,” “i” is “ee” and “u” is “ooo.” 


Greetings – Hujambo?  Sijambo!  How are you?  I’m good, how are you?

                        Habari gani?  Nzuri sana.  How are you? (literally ‘What’s the news?’)  I’m very good.
